The Troubles
An intense story with complicated layers of lives, ideals, deceits, and human flaws. Character Tom Kettle is lifted from Of Mice and Men (right down to the rabbit). Character of Maggie is an interesting device of explanation, but at times, characterization is not credible. Overall story is complex and cemented in tragedy. Aunt Pat is the most complicated and interesting character in the play (bitter, loving, strident, misaligned in her life). Ending is a shocker! I hope they delete some scenes and even some characters. Story is powerful and instructive. The teens and kids almost steal the show! We saw play on Oct. 17–needs a bit more tweaking. Story has to focus itself on its major themes as opposed to nearly all themes of the human condition. Note to Director: Get did of the foreshadowing, dark music. Audience is smart and doesn’t need such cues. Yes, recommend it!
