Loved Superhero....wonderful staging...touching and charmystory...great music all skillfully performed

My first exposure to "Superhero' was a night honoring Tom Kitt and Bryan Yorkey where Marin Mazzie belted out an amazing rendition of the closing number song "Superhero." since then I saw an early reading with Kelly O'Hara and James Spader at the Eugene O'Neil workshop theatre. The show has come a long way, but, isn't quite there yet. I do love Kelly O"Hara and James Spader but the casting of Kate Baldwin and Bryce Pinkham was a hit, especially Baldwin, she was amazing! As for Kyle McArthur, he's come along nicely from the workshop, however, he will be compared to Ben Platt, and he can't live up to that. The character of Vic seems to have lost something since the workshop. The overall production is fine, with a lot of creative animations and set design. What isn't quite there is surprisingly, the music, melodically it's just not quite up to Tom Kitt standards. There are moments, but they are not sustained like Next To Normal or If/Then. The potential is here, just not quite there yet.
