I absolutely loved (almost) everything about it. I could not disagree more concerning the other review who stated they felt like they were watching a "high school" production. Personally I only witnessed one technical difficulty and that was fixed quickly. I'm obsessed with non-standard stagings of classic works. I firmly believe opera as an art form will die if it does not modernize and try to escape the conservative conventions of mid 20th century classical music performance. Nadine as Lucia was PHENOMENAL and her acting was AMAZING. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I much prefer witnessing a performer who is amazing at acting with a mediocre voice than an amazing voice who's acting is dull and uninspired. Luckily, Nadine does both. Unfortunately, Javier Camarena's acting could definitely improve but his voice is amazing. So happy that I went to this performance!

It's true the production isn't the best but Pretty Yende and Michael Fabiano sang so beautifully. This was real grand opera.

Excellent performances by Nadine Sierra as Lucia, Javier Camarena and Artur Ruciński overcame the distractions posed by director Stone’s choice to use live and taped video of the singers shown from the rafters, cell phone photos passed between them, and even an actual drive-in movie playing in the background on stage. Although I adapted to and ultimately liked the restaging in modern-day Middle America Detroit, the video seemed pointless as well as distracting, and Stone failed to provide a coherent reason for his decision to modernize it in these ways. Why is Lucia an opioid addict? Simply because it’s a pervasive problem in our culture? Stone would have done better to highlight the epidemic of domestic violence. Still, the performances, set, costumes and of course Donizetti’s wonderful bel canto opera made it a memorable evening.

The musicians did an outstanding job but I couldn't help but think I was at a high school production. I know objects sometimes fall (curtain) but there is no excuse for the cheap "grassy knoll" and, ofttimes empty stage. Each time I travel to New York, I go to the Metropolitan Opera. This is probably the first time that there was not a full, or at least almost full, house. I had 3 empty seat on one side and 4 on the other. This makes me think poor ticket sales may be the reason for the minimalist design. On a positive note, one of the highlights of the show was the photography scene. It was a distraction from the singing, but was creative and fun. .

Terribly unattractive sets and silly mid-20th Century costumes, ruined this classic opera. It only got worse with the inclusion of electronics and videos to the staging.
