Everything about this ballet was grim and repetitive. I hoped the second act would liven it up, but no, even the costumes in the party scene were washed out. I believe that ABT must have saved money on the set, which seemed to consist of dark curtains and a chair. While the dancing was adequate, the choreography was unremarkable at best. The patron in front of us fell asleep in the first act, so draw your own conclusions. I have seen and loved many of ABT's ballets, but this seemingly endless performance was my very least favorite. Disappointing and not recommended, unless you enjoy buying tickets to boring events.

We have subscriptions for more than 15 years and it was the first ballet we didn’t stay till the end .We have orchestra seats . Will not recommended it for children. The fire seen was good.

This is NOT a classical ballet. It's more modern than anything else. I went to see Misty Copeland. She did so little dancing that I'll need to see her in 'Sleeping Beauty' or 'Swan Lake' to determine for myself how good or great a ballerina I think she is. (I trained at the School of American Ballet in the early to mid-sixties, when the great Russian dancers defected. I got to watch Rudolf Nureyev in class. Natalia Makarova showed up one day to watch my class.) Mostly she gets thrown around a lot, so I see she's good at being lifted. That's about it. The ONLY classical pas de deux, sort of, as there were no real solos, was Blanche, a minor character. Why the role was given to a principal dancer rather than a soloist I have no clue. Christine Shevchenko was good enough that I will buy a ticket to see her in the lead in 'Swan Lake' or 'Sleeping Beauty'. The best role is Adele, Mr. Rochester's ward. Mostly she bounces up and down like an excited little girl, but Zimmi Coker, who plays her and is in the corps is outstanding! It is the only major part given to a corps member. I don't know why it wasn't given to a soloist. Maybe it's because Ms. Coker is so good in the role. The music is boring, not very dance-y, and is practically a piano concerto. The pianist was given absolutely NO recognition whatsoever! That was so wrong! The conductor should have brought her up on stage with him. All he did on stage at the end was to move forward and motion the musicians to stand. There were a number of children at this Wednesday matinee, so they skipped school to see it. This is most certainly NOT a show for children! Save your money for the time-honored classics.

I wanted to love Jane Eyre and looked forward to it from the time my subscription renewal arrived. I was disappointed by the choreography, and the music did not "save" the night for me. I left at intermission. I could not take any more. I have been an ABT subscriber since 1978 and this was the first time I left at intermission. I am very sorry, I wish I could have liked it. But no.
