Were the critics spooked by Grey House?

This haunting psychological thriller opened at the Lyceum Theatre this week, but did it give the critics chills? Or do we need an exorcism?

Starring Laurie Metcalf, Tatiana Maslany and Paul Sparks, Grey House is a spooky new dark comedy from Levi Holloway, directed by Joe Mantello. After a couple's car breaks down in 1977, they find sanctuary at the titular grey house, where nothing is as it seems.

So what did the critics have to say about this nail-biting new thriller? Well, it seems it was mainly a neutral to positive response. They enjoyed the experience, despite critiquing the slow script, most were won over by the finale, as pointed out by Variety:

"The script can drag and the metaphors pile higher than Jenga blocks, but the oblique text of "Grey House" never lacks for intrigue and edge-of-your-seat fascination. And the show's fine cast and creatives do their best to make it all less impenetrable."

Deadline agreed:

"At times, the psychological slow burn of his new dark comedy moves at a snail's pace lethargizing the play's momentum and stretching entire scenes beyond comprehension but "Grey House" cracks open in its final moments. And by its end, the play accomplishes what only the best of its genre is able to: It reminds us that the scariest monster of all lives in mankind."

While it may not be a runaway hit with the press, we have a feeling Grey House will find its audience, especially with this writer, who can't wait to see it!
