Austin is back from rehab but can he make amends with his family?
Premiering off-Broadway, new play Austin is about the destructive effect that addiction can have on a family. This production is directed by Setrakian, and the cast includes Thomas G. Waites and James MacCaffey.
Written by Edla Cusick (Midnight Lunch), Austin centers on the eponymous title character, a former money manager, who is just out of his seventh stint in rehab and determined to reconcile with his wife and daughter. As he tries to make amends, he must stay with his brother at their old childhood home in Hell's Kitchen. The story takes a turn when a young counsellor from Austin's rehab days turns up, and it becomes apparent that Austin is hiding a huge secret from his family. Blending a fine comic touch and real emotional resonance, Austin shows what Off-Broadway theater is all about.
