The Master Builder

Closed June 9, 2013

[The Master Builder] engages knotty spiritual questions about the mysterious workings of human fate and the ruthlessness of the artist?s ego.

Charles Isherwood, The New York Times

Why See The Master Builder?

Halvard Solness (an electrifying John Turturro) is a middle-aged architect whose passion and dedication borders on obsession. His marriage to his wife Aline (Katherine Borowitz) is frozen in the sorrow of his children's deaths that resulted from a fire that ultimately led him to profit.

When Solness is visited by Hilde (Wrenn Schmidt), a young woman from his past, an off-kilter love triangle is created in their home - Hilde lavishes adoration upon Solness which plays into the architect's desire and egoism, while his tragedy-haunted wife watches from the sidelines.
