A Motherly Intervention
Tony winner Joe DiPietro's (Memphis) acclaimed comedy makes it Off-Broadway debut, following sold out runs in New Jersey and East Hampton. A hilarious exploration of fidelity and family dynamics, Clever Little Lies follows a mother's ill-advised attempts to save her son's crumbling marriage over drinks and desert.
David Saint, who helmed the show's George Street Theatre production in 2013, returns as director, while the cast is headed by Emmy, Grammy and Golden Globe winner Marlo Thomas (That Girl) as the redoubtable matriarch Alice. She's joined by Greg Mullavey, George Merrick and Kate Wetherhead.
What is Clever Little Lies About?
Following their weekly game of tennis, Bill Jr. confides in his father that he's having an affair with his personal trainer. He swears his father to secrecy, but Bill Snr. is unable to hide anything from his wife Alice, who immediately resolves to set the situation straight. She invites her son, together with his pregnant wife Jane, over for dinner, confident that just getting everything out in the open is the surest route to saving the couple's marriage. As it turns out, rather a lot more dirty laundry is aired during the acrimonious evening than Alice had bargained for.
