Featuring Tony winners LaChanze and Chuck Cooper
The 2016 Encores! series, which revives rarely performed musicals in the form of staged concerts, continues with 1940's Cabin in the Sky. With catchy music and lyrics by Vernon Duke and John Latouche, this show is a fable-like tale that celebrates African American music and dance. The story follows good-for-nothing layabout Little Joe, who is brought back from the edge of death by his wife's pious devotion when the Lord gives him six more months to prove his worth.
This Encores! production features a wealth of Broadway talent, led by Michael Potts (The Book of Mormon, HBO's The Wire) as Little Joe. Joining him are Tony nominee Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess), Tony winner Chuck Cooper (The Life) and Tony winner LaChanze (The Color Purple). Tony winning actor and director Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Seven Guitars, Selma) is at the helm.
