This town is big enough for the two of them

Whilst it's hard to imagine a world without Lin-Manuel's rendition of the intricacies of the birth of the nation in Hamilton, Encores! is here to remind us that 1776 once filled the role of groundbreaking Founding Fathers musical with a timely new production this Spring.

Premiering in 1969, this show by Peter Stone and Sherman Edwards came along at a time when the cultural landscape was changing, ushering a more experimental approach to musicals, as seen in Hair, from whom 1776 actually scooped the Tony for Best Musical from under!

Fractious and compelling, the days leading up to the signing of the declaration of independence are examined in clever songs and witty dialogue, including 'Sit Down John' and more. Just as the aforementioned Hamilton was a surprise hit, prepare to give 1776 a chance to show you Ben Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson in an entierly new light.
