McCarthy's Right Hand Man
One of the most controversial figures in American legal history is at the heart of this new play by Joan Beber. It centers on Roy Cohn, celebrity attorney and right-hand man to Senator McCarthy during the Second Red Scare of the 1950s, as he nears his death. As Cohn slips in and out of reality, he is visited by various illustrious figures from his past including Barbara Walters, Ronald Reagan and his lover Serge, who demand his penitence, forgiveness or empathy. A hallucinatory trip into an addled mind, this work doubles as a fantastical exploration of some of the darker moments in recent American history.
Taking on the lead role is Christopher Daftsios (Picture Ourselves in Latvia), while the cast also includes Marilyn Sokol, Lee Roy Rogers and Ian Gould. Directed by Katrin Hilbe, I Bed with Roy Cohn begins its limited run this September, with previews starting August 25.
