The American Premiere!
Featuring a dazzling lead turn by Denise Gough, London hit People, Places and Things makes its American premiere at St. Anne's. This absorbing show won two Olivier Awards in the UK, including Best Actress for Denise Gough, who was praised by the Evening Standard as giving "the greatest stage performance since Mark Rylance in Jerusalem."
From the writer of Broadway's 1984
Gough stars as Emma, who we track as she hurtles through the stages of drink and drug addiction, rehab and recovery. Staged with a chaotic beauty, that feels like it could spin out of control at any moment, this play explores addiction's relationship to society, religion and even theatre itself. People, Places and Things is written by Duncan MacMillan, whose tech-savvy adaptation of 1984 opened to rave reviews on Broadway earlier this year. Jeremy Herrin directs.
What is People, Places and Things about?
Emma is having trouble making it past the first step. Rather than admit she dampens out the problems of the modern world with drink and drugs, she'd rather blame it on everyone else. Unrepentant and raging, she rallies against every attempt at help, until she realises it's up to her to rescue herself.
