Why See Nevermore - The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe?

THE pitiful LIFE OF THE ORIGINAL Horror master

Enter the twisted mind of Edgar Allan Poe in this wickedly dark musical play from Catalyst Theatre, which takes up residence at The New World Stages from January 14th. Created by Jonathan Christenson, Nevermore traces the life of the famous horror writer, who captivated Victorian society with tales like The Pit and the Pendulum, and explores his fascination with all things morbid and grotesque.

Boasting stunning Gothic production design from Bretta Gerecke, and a tinkling score inspired by Poe's own poetry, Nevermore has wowed critics and audiences alike the world over. Upon its London premiere, The Telegraph's Charles Spencer dubbed it that most elusive of things "a genuinely creepy musical", and praised the "atmosphere of ominous dread" which cloaks the production.

WHAT IS NEVERMORE ABOUT?

Edgar Poe is born on a dark and stormy night in 1809, to a sickly mother and an alcoholic father. His father abandons Edgar and his two siblings, and his mother passes away soon afterwards, leaving the Poe children to be separated and sent away to new homes. Edgar is taken in by the Allans, a family with their own fair share of demons.

From this rocky start in life, Edgar's life follows a tragic course, marked by death and heartbreak. It was an existence which would inspire Poe to create some of the greatest horror stories ever written, but at a tremendous personal cost.
