A pioneer of the extended vocal technique, the artist has created a multi-disciplinary, genre-defining body of work that explores the intersection of music, movement, image, light and sound. Don't miss the inimitable performer and her four-woman ensemble as they perform new work Cellular Songs at BAM's Harvey Theatre this Spring.
Following her celebrated work On Behalf Of Nature, Cellular Songs continues Monk's examination of the natural world and its relationship with humans. Accompanied by lighting design, dynamic movement and instrumentals, the groups vocals meld together to emulate the interconnectivity between earth and man, drawing inspiration from existence at a cellular level. Biological processes like division, replication, layering and mutation serve as a beautiful blueprint for peaceful existence in a world at war with itself.
