A world premiere to celebrate the The Welsh composer's birthday
Distinguished Concerts International New York celebrate the 75th birthday of composer-in-residence Karl Jenkins with this special concert. The night will include the US premiere of his Symphonic Adiemus, as well as his piece Stabat Mater.
A former member of the 70s prog band Soft Machine, Jenkins now stands as one of modern classical music's most successful composers. His choral works, which often blend together as disparate elements as world music, spoken incantations and 13th century chants, have sold millions of copies and he's been commissioned to write pieces for the BBC and diamond merchants De Beers. His style may not be to the liking of some classical music purists, but there's no doubt he's pushing the form into new directions.
