Why See Goran Bregovic?
The Balkans have long been a melting pot of different cultures, witnessing centuries of clashes and co-habitation by Muslims, Orthodox Christians and Catholics. Its from this long tradition of diversity that Goran Bregovic draws his music, an electric mixture of gypsy brass bands, lilting folk balladry and tub-thumping marching music.
Perhaps Yugoslavia's most famous musician, Goran's career stretches back some 40 years, during which time he's released countless records, scored numerous movies (including 1993's cult Arizona Dream starring Johnny Depp) and even wrote Serbia's entry for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. As live experiences go, catching Goran and his huge 'Wedding and Funeral Band' takes some beating. He plays Isaac Stern Auditorium in New York, NY, Closed March 8, 2017
