The twelve-time Tony nominated Spongebob Squarepants musical has announced that it will be closing its doors at the Palace Theater on September 16 this year.
The closure comes partly due to the Palace Theater (the musical's home) closing for a mega refurbishment project, which will completely rejuvenate and redevelop the site.
Officially opening on December 4, 2017, Spongebob Squarepants will have played 327 regular performances at the time of closing, and will embark on a nationwide tour in the fall of 2019!
The production, which is directed by Tina Landau, recently won the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design of a Musical at the 2018 ceremony.
