A New Fairytale From the Land of Oz
The Woodsman is an origin story like no other and a whole other side to the classic tale of Oz! A brainchild of theatre company Strangemen and Co, it debuted at the Brooklyn's Standard ToyKraft to rapturous critical acclaim and sell-out shows. After doing the Off-Broadway rounds due to high demand, The Woodsman now makes its temporary home on NYC's New World Stages under the direction of James Oritz and Claire Karpen with music composed by Edward W. Hardy.
Based on the writings of the man behind The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Frank L. Baum, it's a dark and unconventional love story that follows the titular woodsman and his significant other, who just happens to be the slave of a particularly powerful and nasty witch. As with most witchy situations, a curse is placed on the poor woodsman that slowly turns him to tin with every swing of his axe... Astounding puppetry, costumes and original music intertwine with a magical story in this enchanting play.
