An All American evening celebrating the greats
The New York City Ballet presents an invigorating programme of patriotic music and dance in 'Hear the Dance - America', a compilation of four different pieces inspired by the works of the great American composers. Starting off the evening will be Peter Martin's 'Hallelujah Junction', a classical pas de deux inspired by George Martin's ever-popular piano piece of the same name.
Following this will be a pas de deux with quite a different flavour - the rousing 'Tarantella' choreographed by George Balanchine. Set to the lively and witty music of New Orleans born Louis Moreau Gottschalk, the dance is an embodiment of effervescent energy and virtuosity. Things then take a jazzy turn with 'Interplay', Jerome Robbins' fusion of the classical and the vernacular set to Morton Gould's bluesy, swing-infused orchestration.
The evening will end with Robbins' spectacular 'Glass Pieces', a highly athletic synergy of postmodern dance and traditional ballet set to the music of the inimitable Phillip Glass.
