A peppy musical about the iconic author's early life
His imagination may have conjured up some of the greatest stories ever told, but Charles Dickens' own life was just as colorful. Young Charles Dickens is a family-friendly bio-musical that shows us the early life of Victorian England's most famous author, who at the age of 12 was forced to work at a factory when his father was sent to debtor's prison. A child of extraordinary intelligence and perseverance, Dickens nevertheless worked his way out of poverty, with many of the colorful characters who he met along the way ending up as figures in his novels.
Laced with simple and sweet songs by Barbara Zinn Krieger and Charles Greenburg, Young Charles Dickens is an entertaining ride through the smoky streets of Victorian London, and an enthralling peak into the mind of one of literature's greatest authors.
