Why See Ugly Lies The Bone?

A WORLD PREMIERE FROM LINDSAY FERRENTINO

Roundabaout Theatre Company are back with a world premiere production that explores spiritual and physical healing after coming home from war. Written by up and coming playwright Lindsey Ferrentino, Patricia McGregor directs an uplifting play about newly discharged female soldier Jess (Mamie Gummer) who finds herself lost and broken following three tours of Afghanistan. Whilst exploring the realm of virtual realitygame therapy to heal her emotional and physical scars, Jess slowly but surely restores her life, relationships and, slowly, herself.

what is it about?

A story that will strike a chord with both war veterans and the public alike, we follow the journey of Jess, who has been horribly wounded whilst on her third tour of Afghanistan, and is no longer allowed to serve. Discharged from the forces, she returns to her home in Florida, which has become decayed and forlorn since leaving, where she is traumatized by her experiences on the front line.

Despondent, she ventures online, and discovers a whole new realm of possibility, where she can start to rebuild her life, block by block through the use of virtual game therapy. Think Second Life, but with none of the fakery that goes with it. Slowly with the use of this medium, she regains her confidence and starts to rebuild herself from the inside out.
