A true New York institution, this amateur open mic night for the next singing sensation, child star or dancer is notorious for its tough audience who will be the final say in how their future careers go. This night sees previous round winners compete together to reach the semi-finals!
Amateur Night At The Apollo has been a key feature in the local music scene since 1934 when it launched, and has been the stepping stone in the career of many world-class musicians and entertainers, including Lauryn Hill and Stevie Wonder.
The evening's format follows a similar one to that of popular TV talent shows like American Idol and Star Search, where a pre-selected group of hopefuls do their best on-stage to impress a panel of judges. However At Amateur Night At The Apollo, the audience is the judge and has the responsibility of deciding who stays and who goes - cheering loudly for those they like, and booing those they deem less adept off the stage.
