In 2014, Disney's Aladdin brought a whole new world to the New Amsterdam Theatre. Since then, Aladdin and Jasmine have flown over 115 miles on the magic carpet, thousands of wishes have been granted, and a classic Disney love story has enchanted nearly six million theatergoers night after night since 2014. Aladdin will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a celebratory performance on March 28, marking 3,513 performances.
A charming street boy, a mischievous monkey, and a Genie with three wishes! Aladdin dreams of life beyond the marketplace bustle of the streets of Agrabah. One day, fate lands him upon a magic lamp. When the genie inside offers Aladdin three wishes, he embarks on a magical journey to win the heart of Princess Jasmine. But as with any Disney story, there are sinister schemes at play - this time set by none other than the wicked Jafar!
Michael Maliakel stars as Aladdin, with Michael James Scott portraying Genie, Sonya Balsara plays Jasmine, and Dennis Stowe plays Jafar in the current Broadway cast of the production. The stage adaptation stretches the 90-minute film into a two-act format and features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and a book with additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs.
