Jordan Harrison's brand-new play heads to the Off-Broadway Vineyard Theatre this fall, as part of an exciting 2017/18 season. The Pulitzer Prize finalist's new comedy takes us to the 14th century and plague-ridden Europe on a remarkable race against time to out-travel the Black Death. Originally commissioned by South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, it received its first staged reading at Chicago's Goodman Theatre's New Stages Festival In 2016. Drawing parallels between the plague and today's more modern epidemics, this dark comedy explores how we tackle crises through creativity and art.
What to expect
When a troupe of traveling actors take to the road in a last-ditch effort to escape the deadly Black Death, they are joined by a mysterious new actor, who the leading lady Hollis has her suspicions about. Going in search of answers for herself, the plague starts looking a lot like another disease that has had equally devastating effect across the world.
This new play comes hot on the heels of the 2017 movie adaptation of Harrison's play Marjorie Prime, a futuristic love story that examines memory and loss by having one's deceased loved one appear as a computer program at will. Having garnered a Pulitzer nomination for Drama, the film adaptation stars Jon Hamm, Geena Davis and Tim Robbins
