Tony-winner James Earl Jones stars in this Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman playBuy Tickets
Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe winner James Earl Jones will return to the Broadyway - the showbiz sphere he started out in over fifty years ago - in this touching, comedic play by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. "You Can't Take It With You" follows two families whose lives are thrown together when their children become engaged. It is directed by six-time Tony nominee Scott Ellis.
The play follows a familiar storyline: boys meets girls and they fall in love. Throw one unconventional family and another unhappy family into the mix however, and our familiar storyline gets thrown way course and out into the unchartered waters of what happens when the bride and groom get along just fine, but both pairs of in-laws are much less enamoured with each other.
Tony Kirby and Alice Sycamore, newly engaged, decide to invite Tony's parents to dine at Alice's family home. The Sycamore's can't seem to see what he sees in Alice and her mad-cap family, including her eccentric Grandfather, her mother (who writes erotic plays) and her father (who manufacturers fireworks... in their basement).
Though Tony and Alice are very much in love, the differences between their two families make Alice wonder if a marriage would ever work. Will love trump family loyalty, can both families learn a little something from each other?
