Old-Time Broadway Magic!
Dames at Sea returns to Broadway in 2015 after a fifty year hiatus! Directed and choreographed by Tony-nominated choreographer Randy Skinner (42nd Street), the musical is a loving send-up of 1930 Busby Berkeley-style musicals, packed to the rafters with tap-happy chorus lines and incredible costumes. It's the first show to be staged at The Hayes since its takeover by the second Theater Group earlier this year.
Dames at Sea first opened on Broadway at the Bouwerie Lane Theatre way back in 1968, where it helped Bernadette Peters kick her Broadway career into action. This 2015 revival promises to capture the original mood and glamour of the Broadway shows of old, whilst still raising this classic production to new heights.
What is Dames at Sea About?
Starry-eyed Ruby steps off the bus from Utah onto the streets of New York, armed with nothing more than a pair of tap shoes and a dream of making it on Broadway. So she can't believe her luck when she lands a part in the chorus in a new show, but her joy is shortlived when she discovers the theatre is scheduled for demolition. Together with the rest of the cast and creative, including temperamental diva Mona, Ruby must find a way to save the show!
