Far From Heaven seeks to elucidate the big and disturbing emotions beneath Cathy's shiny, conformist surface
Ben Brantley, The New York Times
In Far From Heaven, a new musical directed by Tony nominee Michael Greif, secret longings and forbidden desires stir beneath the facade of Cathy Whitaker's (Four-time Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara) suburban life. On the surface she seems to be the picture-perfect wife and mother, however her world begins to unravel as she grapples with her identity in a society on the verge of upheaval.
Set in the 1950s, the musical is based on the 2002 Academy Award-nominated film of the same name and features an original score and songs written by Michael Korie and Scott Frankel. The book was written by Tony Award winner Richard Greenberg who also wrote Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Assembled Parties.
The production premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival last year and takes up residency at the Playwrights Horizons Theatre in May and June this year.
