A sleek, seductive sound that grew out of the trip-hop craze of the late 90s
With the release of their seventh studio album Saudade earlier this year, DC-based duo Eric Hilton and Rob Garza's reaffirmed their love of Bossa Nova, the music which united them in the first place and still lies at the heart of all their music making processes. Taking its name from a Portuguese word that roughly translates "the presence of absence", their latest work delves into the more melancholic side of their favourite genre. Among the guest stars providing the mournful vocals was Nouvelle Vague's Karina Zeviana.
It's now been 17 years since the two songwriters first met, and Theivery Corporation is now recognised as one of the most experimental and reliably consistent acts in world music. They've have spent nearly two decades creating boundary-pushing, intricate electronic music, inspired by Latin America's intricate rhythms and lush textures, and have toured with the likes of Paul McCartney. Their live shows are always an incredible showcase for their globe-trotting influences and generous spirit.
