Pump Boys and Dinettes: A Musical

Pump Boys and Dinettes: A Musical at New York City Center Mainstage

Why see Pump Boys and Dinettes: A Musical?

Pump Boys and Dinettes is a vibrant and energetic musical tribute to life on the roadside. Set in a small gas station and diner, the musical tells the story of four attendants and two waitresses and the country, rock and pop music that gets them through the day.

The strong emphasis on live music stems from the musical's creators - a six-strong performance group also named Pump Boys and Dinettes. They wrote, directed and even starred in the original Broadway production, where they played instruments ranging from fiddles and bass guitar to kitchen utensils! The Broadway premiere opened at the Princess Theatre in 1982 - it ran for 573 performances and was nominated for a Tony for Best Musical.
