Rent

Rent at Stage 1 New World Stages

Why see Rent?

Returning to NYC after its groundbreaking 12-year Broadway run, RENT, set in NYC's East Village, is a modern take on the classic Puccini opera, La Boheme. It tells the unforgettable story of a group of young artists learning to survive, falling in love, finding their voices and living for today.

Director Greif (Next to Normal) has engaged a new choreographer, a new set designer, a new lighting designer, a new projection designer and others to reinvent Rent (without changing a word, except that the opening line now makes clear that the show's period is 1991-92 rather than circa 1995).

No day but today!!

I've seen RENT 5 times and am seeing it again in a few weeks. It is an awesome show well worth seeing more than once. I have the soundtrack and know practically every word by heart . . . you will leave the show with this one thought "Forget regret or life is yours to miss . . . no day but today!" ... Read more

Rent

Just saw rent at Stratford last night. Had only seen the movie previously. I found this production very enjoyable and powerful in moments. At the onset Stratford Mark was more engaging than movie Mark and knocked it out of the park with the tango number and everything else. Maureen is tough if not impossible to replicate but I loved Stratford Maureen and Stratford Joanne in all their numbers.. I particularly loved Stratford Mimi...Movie Mimi fell flat for me but Stratford Mimi was vibrant portrayed issues and had a much better singing voice. Stratford Tom Collins was excellent. Just loved this production much more than the movie. Thank you all for your effort. ... Read more
