Eugene Jerome and his extended family live in a crowded home in the Brighton Beach section of Brooklyn in 1937. As he daydreams about a baseball career, he must also cope with his family’s troubles, the opposite sex and his developing identity as a writer.
Simon's semi-autobiographical comedy concerns Depression-era teenager Eugene Jerome, who dreams of becoming a successful comedy writer, but whose fantasies are constantly punctured (and ultimately fueled) by his squabbling family.
