A New York transfer of "Transfers!"
An exciting new season at MCC Theater beckons for 2017/18 with a new roster of new plays. Exploring a myriad of social issues within the series, Transfers takes a look at the trajectories of two gifted, but impoverished students from the South Bronx, who find themselves running against each other for a prestigious scholarship at an elite university. But when they find themselves on the same campus visit, they are both forced to reconcile their humble backgrounds with the extreme privilege on show around them.
A real problem highlighted
First premiering in 2016 as part of the Vassar And New York Stage And Film season, this new work by the Lilly Award winner and 2014 OBIE Award recipient (The Hill Town Plays) explores the snobbery faced by underprivileged students when attending prestigious schools. When class, ambition and expectation are threatened by perception, one's personal hopes for a quality education can be swept away in an instant. Transfers will be helmed by Jackson Gay,who previously directed Off-Broadways's 10 Things To Do Before I Die in 2009, and 2005's These Paper Bullets!.
