Lupita Nyong'o's broadway Debut
Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o leads the Broadway transfer of this acclaimed play from Danai Gurira. Compassionate, witty and deeply moving, it is a portrait of the dehumanizing effects of war, and how women are usually the first victims of conflict. After a successful and critically lauded run in London, Eclipsed transferred across the pond to the Public Theater in 2015, where it enjoyed a critically lauded run and was extended twice.
Coming to America's attention for her Oscar-winning turn as Patsey in Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave, Lupita Nyong'o also starred in one of the most anticipated movies of recent times, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The rest of the cast also reprise their roles for this Broadway production.
What is Eclipsed About?
Set during the Liberian Civil War of 2003, Eclipsed is the story of a band of captive wives of a rebel officer. Through adversity they have formed an unlikely sisterhood to deal with the violence and struggle all around them. When a new girl is added to the group, tensions begin to surface quickly in their neglected corner of the compound.
