Rising playwright Lucy Kirkwood makes her Broadway debut with The Children, a slow-burning drama that asks where our responsibility for future generations begins and where it ends. Set in a post-apocalyptic Britain, the story revolves around three old friends who must choose between action and self-preservation. Laced with black humor and moral quandaries, this three-hander leisurely unfurls its mysteries over its run time, building to a startling climax.

The original West End cast - Bafta Award winner Francesca Annis, Olivier Award nominee Ron Cook and Deborah Findlay - star in this transfer, all of whom drew rapturous reviews from the UK critics.

What is The Children About?

Retired nuclear engineers Hazel and Robin are living out their perfectly content married existence in a coastal cottage in England, as the world outside their windows goes to pieces due to the meltdown of a nuclear power plant nearby. Their peace is interrupted by the arrival of Rose, an old friend from over 30 years ago. It soon becomes clear that this is not a purely social visit, and that Rose has a question to make of the couple - will they help her in the clean up, and make sure there's something left for generations to come, or are they content to shirk their responsibilities?
