Yo-Yo Ma joins forces with the NY Phil
Needing almost no introduction, multiple Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma is arguably classical music's biggest star. The American virtuoso performs all over the world to sold-out houses and remains one of the best-selling recording artists in the classical field. His versatility, energy, and pure love of creating and performing exquisite music make him a favorite for audiences of all ages. Now he performs his prodigious skills with the New York Philharmonic, in a sparkling program that includes a city premiere Cello Concerto by Composer-in-Residence Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Now celebrating its 175th landmark season, Gilbert's eighth and final season as Music Director marks a tenure of experimental works, as well as being the first native New Yorker to fill the post. Of his time at the Phil, he said, " It's a wonderful atmosphere, which of course I will be sorry to leave. But as I've thought about it, the next logical step - it's just longer than I want to stay around. It's actually that simple.
