Why See The Real Thing?

Two highly anticipated Broadway debuts

Ewan McGregor and Maggie Gyllenhaal make their Broadway debuts in this stirring and sensual Broadway revival of Tom Stoppard's play, produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company. They will star alongside Tony-winner Cynthia Nixon and Josh Hamilton in a production directed by Sam Gold. This Tony Award-winning play takes a dark and honest look at human relationships and the nature of fidelity and love, cleverly lightening the mood set by its more serious content with delightfully witty moments.

This production of The Real Thing sees a highly anticipated cast comprised of three great screen talents take the stage on the Great White Way this Autumn. Ewan McGregor is a Golden Globe and Olivier-nominee, whilst Ms. Gyllenhaal was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the film Crazy Heart. Cynthia Nixon won a Tony Award in 2006 for her role in the play Rabbit Hole. This multi-award-winning cast combination is certain to ensure this moving new production packs a punch.

What is The Real Thing about?

The Real Thing tells the story of a playwright named Henry (played by McGregor) who finds that life begins to imitate art a little too accurately. Henry is not so happily married to the lead actress, Charlotte (played by Nixon), of his play which is about a marriage on the verge of collapse. When his real-life affair with their close friend Annie (played by Gyllenhaal) threatens to derail their marriage - and all three of their lives - completely, he begins to question whether or not what they have is actually real love or not.
