Mary Mitchell Campbell and Ian Kagey are teaming up to represent the soul-stirring journey of Jacob Jankowski and his circus companions. You heard that right: the highly-anticipated Broadway sensation Water for Elephants is set to release a cast album following its opening night tonight at the Imperial Theatre (21 March 2024). An exact release date is yet to be announced for the album, which is slated to be recorded on March 25.
Water For Elephants is the official musical adaptation of Sara Gruen's smash-hit novel and is Directed by Tony Award nominee Jessica Stone (Kimberly Akimbo), with a book by three-time Tony nominee Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, Peter and the Starcatcher).
During the Great Depression, a young man named Jacob Jankowski joins a traveling circus following a family tragedy. The circus is colorful albeit brutal, and it is there that Jacob is instantly drawn to Marlena, a beautiful equestrian star, and Rosie, an elephant with a mysterious past. In this odd community, he must confront the dangers and secrets behind the glamour of circus life while being prepared to give himself up to the unknown.
Grant Gustin, known for his roles in The Flash and Glee, makes his Broadway debut as Jacob Jankowski, while Isabelle McCalla from Shucked takes on the role of Marlena. Other cast members include Gregg Edelman as Mr. Jankowski, Paul Alexander Nolan as August, Stan Brown as Camel, Joe De Paul as Walter, and Sara Gettelfinger as Barbara.
