The Broadway run of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is coming to a close on May 5, which coincides with the departure of stars Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster. Once the show draws its final curtain it will have played 28 previews and 407 performances.
This captivating production, directed by Thomas Kail, features music and lyrics by the legendary Stephen Sondheim, with a book by Hugh Wheeler based on an adaptation by Christopher Bond. The incredible show also has a 26-piece orchestra playing the original orchestrations of Jonathan Tunicks.
Sweeney Todd began its performances on February 26, 2023, and officially opened on March 26, 2023, at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Initially, the roles of the Demon Barber and Mrs. Lovett were portrayed by Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford, both of whom received Tony nominations for their outstanding performances.
