Created for the 2000 Salzburg Festival, Kaiji Sarriano's haunting L'Amour de Loin (The love from afar) makes it's Metropolitan debut this season in a re-imagined production that sees ribbons of illumination cover the stage and orchestra as this poignant story of longing plays out to a lushly haunting score that will keep you mesmerized till the final flourish. The Metropolitan Opera present Barlett Sher's lushly vivid production of Gounod's romantic opera. Adapted from Shakespeare's classic tale of star-crossed lovers, it will reunite Diana Damrau and Vittorio Grigolo, who displayed their sizzling chemistry in last year's Manon! Stunning and sumptuous, this retelling is likely to be a jewel in the 2017/16 season. More info

The Met's unforgettable production of Verdi's ancient Egyptian drama stars Liudmyla Monastyrska once again, alternating with Latonia Moore and Krassimira Stoyanova​. They share the title role of the enslaved Ethiopian princess caught in a love triangle with the heroic Radames. More info

The ever enduring Don Giovanni returns to the Metropolitan Opera. Mozart's libertine philanderer is cast in a decidedly darker light in this staging, whose story of unavenged justice incorporates tragedy and black comedy, as well as the supernatural elements which ultimately downfall. Giovanni is no misunderstood hero in this production, which was created by acclaimed British director and producer Michael Grandage. More info

Verdi's impressively epic opera returns to the Met in a powerful and sprawling production that will take you far back in time to Babylon, where tensions rise between the Hebrews and the Babylonians.
