In a world first, the Lincoln Center Festival brings together three of ballet's most sought-after companies for this exceptional 50th-anniversary celebration of George Balanchine's landmark triptych, back on the stage where it premiered in 1967. The Paris Opera Ballet takes the reigns with the ethereal forest landscape of Emeralds, with the New York City Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet taking it in turns to present the jazz-infused firecracker Rubies and Diamonds, the tribute to the Imperial Russian era. Jean-Christophe Maillot's energetic ballet for grown-ups to the music of Shostakovich heads to New York this summer, following a critically acclaimed run in at London's Royal Opera House last year. Adding a new lease of modernity to the classical Bolshoi repertoire, the witty and fast-paced choreography perfectly compliments the feisty nature of Shakespeare's sex comedy. A very special three-day event, the music of iconic Russian composer Tchaikovsky forms the central focus of this dance spectacular. Showcasing the full range of breathtaking athleticism and lyrical beauty, his music will feature works choreographed by the likes of Alexei Ratmansky, George Balanchine and Marcelo Gomes.
