HONEYMOONERS

Wonderful show. Combines nostalgia with new material. All was great except an advertising scene based on a Christmas Pageant where Jesus is rhymed with cheeses. The audience well received the show, however it seemed that this attempt at humor was not met with the same enthusiastic applause as the rest the show. I'd say go see it even if your not a Honeymooners fan. Although it helps.

LONG AND SHORT ON LAUGHS

The preview I caught was draggy and simply not funny. Act one clocked in at an hour and twenty minutes at which time my bladder burst and I hit the door for home. I didn't care about the characters enough to see what could possibly happen with the them in two more hours, having been told the show would go till 10:45! I'm in the biz and was told act two was better, but I had simply had enough. The sound from the balcony was pinched and unnatural. There were some cute moments but not enough to keep me in the theatre. I liked Ralph and the other couple, but Alice was a total miss to me. When I read the NYT raves of her I was stupefied. Didn't care for her singing at all either. I've seen the last batch of PMP shows for the past 2 years and have picked all the hits. Surprised at the good reviews. Wondering if they cut this down an hour by the time it opened. I will ask the folks there. Also, if you're not a crazed fan of the series, you are unlikely to go wild for this musical.
