Just go, see and feel The Gypsy... This is Theatre at its ultimate best. Hits the central nervous system slap bang where you least expect it. Shirley Henderson could and should NOT ever be replaced. Tip to enjoy the play to the extent of its unconscious creation- always keep one of your eyes ‘peeled’ on Shirley. Somehow Shirley captures the pure essence like a distilled lavender essential oil or captured fragile rose petals made by the enfleurage process. There is an alchemy at play here. Bob Dylan’s tunes and lyrics; Conor McPherson’s naive but sound choice of songs and journey of the story. The Band’s wild and gentle interpretation of the tunes. The entire cast’s energy, concentration and love for the play and story. It is magnificent. I loved it. I say “naive” because Conor never lived through Dylan’S music. Kieren Hynd’s told me that Conor is the most lovely, genuine and kindest person you could wish to meet. (I don’t know Kieren but met him near London Theatre. Xx
