Christopher Lloyd Returns To The Stage In Pound!
From humble beginnings in Idaho to becoming a Fascist spokesman, prisoner of war and finally a patient of St. Elizabeth's Psychiatric Hospital, the story of Ezra Pound, an infamous 20th-century poet, has intrigued the literary world since his death in 1972. This October Sean O'Leary's Pound receives its New York premiere as it delves into the iconic poet's last days at the Hospital and his torrid relationship with Ann Polley, a young Psychiatrist determined to help him.
Ezra Pound
Becoming disheartened with the state of international capitalism after WWI Pound moved to Italy where he became fascinated with Mussolini's fascist politics. Embracing the movement with open arms Pound lent his writing genius towards the likes of Adolf Hitler and Sir Oswald Moseley. Employed in WWII by the Italian Government, Pound made hundreds of radio broadcasts criticising the United States and expressing support for Hitler's treatment of Jews during the conflict, his open support lead to his arrest in 1945 by American forces where he became a prisoner of war. With his mental health increasingly worsening Pound began writing his epic The Cantos before being admitted to St. Elizabeth's Psychiatric Hospital upon his return to the States where he stayed for 12 years.
Pound's iconic works include Ripostes, Hugh Selwyn Mauberley and the 120-section epic, The Cantos.
