STRAIGHT WHITE MEN

I wanted to see straight white men because of the recent movie armie hammer made it got me so interest that I wanted to see more of him in the play. as I got good seat 6th row in the center not too prices The play becames a story that can happen to any family in reality The play itself became quite moving showing the way brother find ways of teasing one another and they try to tease back by showing how much affection they have for each other by expressing in there own way and how quickly they don't there behaviour

VERY RELEVANT FOR OUR TIMES

This play deals, very insightfully, with the lives of three straight white men born into a liberal upper-middle class family in which their parents taught them to be aware of their white male privilege. Mother, it's revealed, reinvented Monopoly and called it Privilege. All three men become successful in their chosen fields. But, the oldest son Matt recently left his career for a job making copies for a not-for-profit earning him minimum wage. "They need me." "I want to be of use." He says to his exasperated brothers. The central transition in the play comes when he sobs uncontrollably at the dinner table. Why is he crying? This plays deals with the plight of the socially liberal straight white man who's "woke" but helpless in the face of the gifts of raging capitalism. Will I pass up this opportunity for success because I've been given a boost up by the society in which I was born? Two brothers say no. One brother says yes. The play ends with him alone on stage. We're left to wonder.

DISAPPOINTMENT

I really wanted to like STW but found it boring and really emotionally flat. The characters never got me to care about them or their circumstances, there were many awkward moments where it seemed lines may have been forgotten. It truly did not hold my interest and I was very tempted to walk out part way through. I give a lot of credit to Armie Hammer and Josh Charles for their energy and zest, but the overall dialogue was predictable and the other actors just FLAT. I know the father was an understudy so maybe it will improve...but I don't recommend it at all. There are so many other fabulous theatre options in NYC. Put your money elsewhere. Plus, the two other actors had bizarre roles that was not ever explained.

NOT A WINNER

Badly written: part comedy, part serious, but it can't make up its mind. Well enough acted, but rather slapstick. Audience ate it up, guffawing at every prank. The sound and llght show at the start and the two nonheteronormative folks at the beginning, did not work; did not seem relevant to this play.

ADMIRABLE FAIL

This play wants to be so much more than it is. I found it redundant, tedious and at times pretentious. Lots of interest ideas and themes that didn't seem to come together. I don't mind when named actors perform on Broadway but I believe the only reason this work is playing is because of Armie Hammer and Josh Charles. Speaking of which, I'm still rooting for the role/performance when Armie Hammer doesn't seem to be playing Armie Hammer. I know it's there. Just not this. Denis Arndt left due to creative differences. I wanted to leave due to creative indifference. There were hoots at the end and a semi- standing O but again I think it had to do with "stars" not the play. I wanted to like it, I really did. Just...meh.

AWKWARD JERKY UNCOMFORTABLE

Armie Hammer and Josh Charles tried to carry the cast; but with a just okay script and jerky direction it didn’t really matter. Tom Starret probably would have made a huge difference to the entire production. In fact, at the beginning and from time to time throughout the show Mr. Starret’s replacement seemed like he forgot some of his lines. The whole show was mostly awkward with an “I really wanna.” laugh, or feel something only a handful of times. Now we know why Mr. Starret really left the production. BTW: the theater is small, the seats are small and if you sit at the end of just about any row in the theater your view is blocked by the walls. Overall, do not recommend.
