The World Premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen's Foreign Bodies
Music is made visual in this kinetic program of boundary pushing works, helmed by Composer-in-Residence Esa-Pekka Salonen. In this special one-night-only event, the world renowned Finnish conductor presents the world premiere of Foreign Bodies, a dynamic new multi-sensory work that fuses vibrant orchestral color, muscular arrangements, direct creative expression and live video installation by BAFTA Award-winning designer and director Tal Rosner.
The physicality of Salonen's musical vision is also reflected in Obsidian Tear - a collaboration with the Boston Ballet and multi award winning British choreographer Wayne McGregor. A choreographic response to Salonen's symphonic poem Nyx, the piece takes its inspiration from the movement of the titular volcanic rock, using it as a metaphor for the emotional and social forces that shape the human experience. Icelandic composer Daniel Bjarnason also debuts his brand new violin concerto.
