Alan Gilbert conducts for the last time

Sing from the rooftops of David Geffen Hall this holiday season with this annual tradition! Featuring a cast of top operatic singers including soprano Christina Landshamer, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, tenor Matthew Polenzani and bass John Relyea. They will be joined by the Concert Chorale of New York, and all conducted by leading maestro and outgoing musical director of New York Philharmonic, Alan Gilbert. A beloved annual tradition at the Hall, this festival Philharmonic concert is a stunning way to conclude your year!

George Frideric Handel's signature piece, Messiah. The piece was first performed in 1742 in Dublin, and has since become a firm favorite among classical music lovers. The piece is an oratorio, which is a musical work similar to an opera but performed utilizing the vocals of both soloists as well as a choir, and often without the same narrative structure as an opera. Handel's Messiah is based on Biblical scripture.
