Celebrating the Woman Of The Great American Songbook
While the halls of of tin-pan alley were filled with the music of great masculine musos like Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Oscar Hammerstein II, it may come as a surprise to note that a host of female writers held their own, penning some of the American Songbooks most memorable tunes. Celebrate their pioneering and enduring legacy during two special performances hosted by former 92Y Lyrics & Lyricists artistic director and American Songbook expert Deborah Grace Winer at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center this fall.
Over the course of a 75 minute long musical revue, a trio of exceptionally talented leading ladies, Drama Desk Award nominee Margot Seibert, Tony nominee Emily Skinner and Tony winner Karen Ziemba, will grace the stage to interpret a rousing program of works including Dorothy Fields' 'On The Sunny Side of the Street', Betty Comden's 'On The Town' and Carolyn Leigh's 'Witchcraft'. They'll be backed up by new arrangements by MD John Oddo and a trio of jazz aficionados.
