The Rensselaer Orchestra Performs Mazzoli & Sibelius
Celebrating the launch of their new Bachelor of Science in Music degree, Troy Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's very own ensemble of undergraduate and graduate students performs a special one-night-only show at the historic Carnegie Hall. Helmed by conductor Nicholas DeMaison, the talented ensemble presents a rousing program of up and coming Brooklyn composer Missy Mazzoli's River Rouge Transfiguration and Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 5.
A sonic tribute to the city of Detroit and its heyday as the center of American's industrial golden age, River Rouge Transfiguration refers to the Ford Motors plant in the city and likens its factories to the cathedrals and altars of more picturesque metropolises with percussion, piano, harp and pizzicato strings. This is followed by the boundless energy and ecstasy of Sibelius' Fifth, a swirling musical mass of memorable melodies, compelling grandeur and exhilarating rhythms that conclude in one of the most epic and well loved finales in classical music.
