EXCELLENT SHOW

We had an great time watching Gary Gulman perform tonight. The crowd was really into it, the humor was smart and very funny and not mean-spirited at all. I read a couple of negative reviews on this site and I couldn’t disagree with them more. This was one of the best comedy shows we’ve seen, and we’ve seen quite a few.

GREAT SHOW

Last night's show at the Baby Grand was fantastic! I think he gets better and better every time I see him. Been a fan for years. But my wife is a huge fan. Seeing Gary at least 5 times in the past few years. Keep up the great work and we look forward to the next time!

GOTTA' DISAGREE

We must have seen different Gary Gulman(s), I saw his show in October in Charleston, SC and Pittsburgh last night, December 9. I thought his act wandered nicely over his childhood and he wove the Seinfeld story slickly into an absolutely brilliant bit about the Sermon on the Mount. I saw his moments of "distraction" as thoughtful comic pauses, and he was self-deprecating enough to be really endearing. Loved every second of his intelligent act. I waited to meet him after the show where he continued to be warm, kind, and very giving. He was polite and considerate to my mostly home bound brother whom you can obviously see has "issues." I'll leave it at that. He is a very funny and kind gentleman.

SIMPLY THE BEST

Saw Gary in Charleston, SC in Oct '23. I was mesmerized by his ability to tell a 90-minute long story filled with laughs, obscure and not so obscure references, hilarity, depth, and an enjoyable trip down memory lane, even though, like Gary, my childhood was no box of chocolates. He is the consummate entertainer - smart, sensitive, witty. The ONLY negative is that I am now spoiled - the Gul has raised the bar so high, I wonder if I'll ever enjoy a live comedy show again if it's not Gary! As for the people who are pissed that he told them to Shut the F up, well, guess what? Those around you probably wished you would too.

WELL CRAFTED, BITING, TENDER, BRILLIANT

This show 20 Jan 2024 in Santa Barbara was great. He bares his ego, admits his insecurity and need for approval and to be recognized as smart. The reviewers that think he was bashing Jesus or Christians weren't listening! He was exceedingly admiring of Jesus's teachings, especially the Sermon on the Mount. He was quite well versed, and also managed to use some "scenes from the Bible" to great comedic success, not criticism. He might overdo a few things a bit (how much he loves it when his wife asks who's singing on a piece of music) and did make a few unwarranted insults to the audience, but that was either his anxiety and insecurity peeking out, or just uninformed stereotyping of the community. He has taken a lot of care to put together a performance that does not aim for the lowest common denominator.

NOT A PRO

I am a fan, but 11/19 show was not a good one. Gary took time to insult Jerry Seinfeld, God and his audience. He lost me when he checked his phone, presumably to see what time it was. He did seem to be working on his act. He had some notes on his stool, but I only saw him check those once. He was interactive with the audience, especially some friends he had in the audience, but then lashed out at the audience, showing frustration and loosing his train of thought. I like his comedy, generally find him likeable, but this was not the performance of a headlining pro. He was right, his opening act, Alex Edelman, was better.

NOT THE SAME GUY I SAW A FEW YEARS AGOWHICH IS FINE, BUT COULD’VE DONE THIS IN A FUNNY WAY LIKE MOST COMEDIANS DO WITH HECKLERS.

This show provided few laughs. Insulted the intelligence of the audience saying we were Midwestern and wouldn’t understand the meaning of “esque”even though it was on a college campus. Had a go with fellow comedian and Jew Jerry Seinfeld;went on for 20 minutes about the deficiencies of the microwave oven-not funny. Seemed arrogant and irritated Maybe still working through the great depresh. Threatened to throw two people out for talking. Which is fine, but could’ve done this in a funny way like most comedians do with hecklers.I kind of wanna refund. He on at least two occasions insulted Jesuit college/his alma mater saying we’re “no Harvard”even though they are considered a very selective institution of higher learning and the place that provided him a full scholarship. He is no Nate Bargatze. Probably not the funniest comedian at this price point.

I WAS NOT HECKLING

Gary Gulman has long been my favorite comedian, until Friday's show. I was in front with my husband, happy to be so close. When he came I was very excited! He did seem a bit off and distracted during the show. I spoke very quietly to my husband a few times and toward the end, Mr. Gulman made a comment directly to me ... something about hearing me ALL night and to just "Shut the F*** up." Kind of broke my heart that he would be so unkind. Won't be seeing him again.

NAPA SHOW

Obviously intelligent but between the rambling and disconnected storytelling it just wasn’t funny. We left early.

DON’T WASTE YOUR $ OR TIME

Horrible, did not laugh once and if you are a Christian be ready for an entire night of Jesus bashing, He can’t come up with anything else to joke about. Complete amateur. His opening act did a great job but that ended once Gary hit the stage . We saw Gary Gulman at the Orange Peel 10/7/23.. The 5 of us were visiting Asheville on a girls trip and couldn’t stand to listen to him any longer so we left.

VERY DISAPPOINTING

I had watched a few videos if Gary before purchasing tickets. Can’t tell you how disappointed I was in the show. I didn’t laugh once. Mocking religions in today’s world is just in poor taste.

SOMETHING HAS CHANGED WITH GG

I was so excited to see one of the funniest comics out there. We even had 2nd row seats! What could go wrong? The opening act was hysterical and all GG had to do was come out and be GG and it all would have been great. That didn't happen. The quick thinking GG seemed to be "struggling" at times. I had a hard time determining if it was part of the act or if it was a genuine struggle connecting thoughts and remembering where he was going. He still made it happen and delivered a 90-minute, relatively quick patter, purposeful rambling skit, but the previous reviews, where they talk about him making fun of Jesus, are not wrong. I know artists change iit up and writing new material must be very hard. This routine seems more alienating than I would have expected from someone like him though. I hope this was a one time miss as I would hate to think this is the direction he wants to go with his comedy. There was more laughter than silence and I would still welcome a chance to see him again.

NOT A GOOD SHOW!!

Was excited to see GG--been a fan of his for years. He started by telling everyone "I've got to get you out of here by 9:15". He then proceeded into a rambling, disconnected routine, making constant references to the time. Not a ton of laughs as he dissected his childhood. At one of the (numerous) awkward, silent pauses, I, a 67-year-old woman, REALLY wanted to shout out "IS IT 9:15 YET?!?" I think I would have gotten a bigger laugh. Not enough chutzpah; I'm still kicking myself... He spent a lot of time bashing religions (got some hissing from the crowd) and putting down the audience for not understanding several of his rather esoteric references. All in all, it seemed like an "I'm SO much more intelligent than you"-fest. NOT funny. I'm sorry I spent the money.
