Daniil Trifonov's 2017 - 2018 Perspectives Series
Two of the world's leading performers join forces for a melancholic yet bittersweet program comprised of the works of Berg, Schumann, Wolf, Shostakovich and Brahms. As part of his seven-concert Perspectives series, world renowned young piano virtuoso Daniil Trifonov displays his prodigious talent alongside four time Grammy-nominated baritone vocalist Matthias Goerne.
The recital's themes of lost love and disillusionment are reflected in the chromatic anguish and suspensions of Schumann's Dichterliebe or A Poet's Love, a song cycle inspired by the composer's separation from his beloved. The program ends with Brahm's Vier Ernste Gesange, a somber and exquisitely beautiful four-song cycle about mourning those who have passed away.
Program:
Berg - Four Songs, Op. 2
Schumann - Dichterliebe
Wolf - Three Poems of Michealangelo
Shostakovich - Selections from Suite, Op. 145
Brahms - Vier ernste Gesange, Op. 121
